Out-Of-The-Ordinary Wedding Garter Ideas

Posted by Camokix on Jan 13th 2014

Removing the garter is a long-running tradition on western weddings. Once the bride and groom have exchanged vows and made their way back to the reception area, the bride tosses a bouquet of roses over her shoulder to the single women, and the groom pulls off the garter and tosses it to all the single men. The two lucky guest who catch these items will get married next (not to each other, though).

If you've been to as many weddings as I have, you've probably noticed how most garters are the same. They are your standard white-colored semi-ruffled fabric with no real details or character. Don't get me wrong, this 'basic' garter is perfectly fine, but some couples may want to show off their wild side by using an unconventional garter in their wedding. If you're struggling to find the perfect garter for your wedding, check out the following ideas listed below.

Camo Garter

Let's face it, you really can't go wrong with a camo one. Camo is a bold fashion statement that's intensified under the veil of a modern-day wedding. Wearing one of these under your gown allows you to maintain your true outdoor spirit while still wearing the traditional wedding attire. And once the groom removes it from your leg, guests will get a kick out of your garter choice!

The only problem with choosing a camo wedding garter is that you may have trouble finding one for sale. If your shopping efforts don't reveal any, I recommend crafting your own using camo fabric and some ruffles. As long as you have access to a basic sewing machine, you should be able to craft a decent camo garter using some basic fabric.

Chocolate and White Garter

Another fun idea is a chocolate brown and white garter. I've actually seen camo garters before, but this is the first time I've come across one using these two colors. Surprisingly, though, they contrast one another to create a stylish and modern look.

While the chocolate and white garter idea is great for any wedding, it's particularly useful in weddings that feature these same colors. If you're going to use chocolate and white in your wedding, consider wearing this type of belt around your leg on the Big Day. It's a fun alternative to the traditional, boring garters that so many brides wear.
